Mahout's goal is to build scalable, Apache licensed machine learning libraries. Initially building out the next machine learning libraries using Hadoop and make use of multicore architectures. It adapts Google's map-reduce paradigm a variety of learning algorithms including locally weighted linear regression (LWLR), k-means, logistic regression (LR), naive Bayes (NB), SVM, ICA, PCA, gaussian discriminant analysis (GDA), EM, and backpropagation (NN).
