Workshop: "Deep learning Neural Networks"

02/02/2016, 09:00 AM
Abstract:
The purpose of this workshop is to allow participants to gain some hands on experience of the popular tools to deep learning neural networks. Throughout the workshop will discuss the theoretical principles involved, and will work through a number of examples. We will be working with some tools for DLNNs such Pylearn2, Torch, and Tensor flow. At the end of the workshop, participants should feel familiar with the basic workings of such tools, and are well on their way to explore the area further.

Date: Saturday 30 January. 2016
Location: Lab 7 (the new building). Faculty of Computers and Information, Cairo University. Speaker: Prof. Mohammed El-Beltagy

Target Audience:
Anybody who wants to understand what DLNN are about from students to analysts and experts in the industry.

Prerequisites:
Basic programming knowledge is a must; some background in neural networks would help. We will be using python, so some knowledge of python would help a great deal. It is recommended that you bring your laptop with you; or you can use any computer in the lab. Also kindly bring an empty flash memory (at least 16 Giga).

Short bio. of Prof. Mohammed El-Beltagy: Mohammed El-Beltagy received a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton, U.K. He was a Senior Scientist at BiosGroup, Inc., in Santa Fe, NM., where he helped optimize various aspects of the operations of Fortune 50 companies. He co-founded HiveStreaming AB, a Stockholm based company that provided P2P media distribution solutions. He co-founded Novelari, an innovation accelerator. Though his work, he applies Machine Learning and Optimization to a plethora of real world problems. Dr. El-Beltagy is an associate professor of Operations Research and Decision support, at the Faculty of Computers and Information, at Cairo University.
